Here are the instructions for this easy DIY craft with a fun commentary below!
Materials:
1 tall white kitchen bag
Fishing line or thread
Sharpie
Scissors
Popsicle stick, straw or dowl rod
Instructions:
1. Cut the top of the bag to remove the drawstring
2. Cut one side of the bag into 4 equal squares.
3. Cut the other side into 4 equal squares to use to bunch up into 4 separate small balls. Tie a piece of fishing line around each ball or tape them.
4. Put your stick into the bunched ball
5. Cover each of the bunched plastic balls and top of the stick with the square piece of plastic bag. If you want an extra layer, add another piece of garbage bag square.
6. Tie a piece of fishing line tightly around the "neck" and stick.
7. Draw on the face.
8. Stick your ghosts in flower pots, behind photo frames or anywhere that needs a little spookiness!
Fun Commentary:
After creating my DIY hanging garbage bag ghost, I decided to continue riding the wave of creativity. I thought to myself "why not have little ghosts popping up everywhere this Halloween?" I decided that I would like some mini ghosts to put in some flower pots I have around the house.
First, I cut the top of the bag to remove the orange drawstring (colors may vary). Then, I cut one side of bag (the side without the death warning) and then cut that into four (somewhat) equal squares. I cut the other large piece into four (somewhat) equal squares as well and bunched them up into four separate balls. I tied a piece of fishing line around each ball but you could probably use some scotch tape to make your life easier.
I put the popsicle stick into each bunched up ball then covered that with the cut square piece of plastic bag. If you want more layers, you could add another piece of plastic bag. Next I tied a piece of fishing line tightly around the "neck" and stick. Finally, I drew on the "face."
We have two windows with wire planters attached to our house. After trying numerous times to put real flowers in these planters, I gave up and purchased some faux greens. In the spring and summer, I add some faux flowers. Adding the mini garbage bag ghosts added some character to the somewhat boring planters! Some cobwebs would be the icing on the cake!
Final thought: I found that the popsicle sticks were a bit short and, at first, I wished that I had used a longer stick so that my ghosts would pop out more. However, if you choose to use a longer stick, you would also have to cut garbage bag into bigger, more rectangular shapes.
